National Team Selection Process
The following policies were enacted by the board of Curling Pilipinas effective for the 2025-2026 curling season (starting September 2025). These are subject to change in the future. Feedback is welcome from membership; please send comments via the Contact form.
Olympic Disciplines
These are defined as the Men’s and Women’s four-person teams, Mixed Doubles and Wheelchair teams.
- Going into the season, for Olympic-eligible teams, the selection for men’s and women’s team skips is made by the Curling Pilipinas President. For mixed doubles, one member of the pair is nominated.
- Skips have the authority to select anyone within the current Curling Pilipinas national pool to form their team. Mixed doubles designated leader may select partner from the national pool.
- Members in the national pool must be in good standing with the federation, meaning their dues are current and they have proof of Philippine citizenship or eligibility to compete as a Philippine national in international competition.
- If a national team meets any of the following criteria, skips have the first right to retain control for following year and may keep or replace any members as desired.
- Team plays within the top division of an event, for example: the Pan Continental Curling Championship A Division, World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, or World Championship.
- Team reaches playoffs within any lower division, for example: Pan Continental Curling Championship Division B playoffs or World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event.
- If a national team does not meet above criteria within the current season, the President has first right to keep or replace the skip for team going into the next season.
Non-Olympic Disciplines
These are defined as events sanctioned by World Curling and hold a World Championship but do not have an Olympic pathway, such as: Mixed four-person teams, Junior Men’s and Women’s four-person teams, Senior Men’s and Women’s four-person teams.
- Members are free to create their own four-member teams for a respective discipline, and all members must be in the Curling Pilipinas national pool and paying the high-performance membership dues and meet all citizenship / nationality eligibility criteria.
- If two or more full teams are interested in representing the Philippines for a given event for the season, a playdown will be played no later than 1 month before the deadline to file a team submission for that event.
- Curling Pilipinas will make sure to put out a calendar of upcoming events for the season and a deadline to show interest so playdowns may be scheduled in a timely fashion.
- If there are fewer than two full teams interested but more than four people available (or five if a team does not wish to carry an alternate), it is up to the pool of interested members to select a full team to register for that season’s event and inform Curling Pilipinas who the team will be.
- If a team represents the Philippines in a non-Olympic event, they have first priority for the same event the following season. The skip may choose the members of his or her team.
- If the entire team declines to participate the following season, or a team becomes ineligible (for example, a junior team ages out), a notice of interest will be put out to membership and the above procedures for finding a new team will be put in place.
